“It is extremely important to understand that a healthy diet is a lifestyle change in that it's not something you can just dip in and out of and expect results and/or optimum health.”
—Chloe Madeley
Hey there Healthy-Eating Action-Taker ~
(aka HEAT!)
I've been working with over 45 clients (including some friends or colleagues) in health and fitness:
first as an Educogym trainer,
then later even amongst patients and my own med school colleagues while I'm finishing my final year.
And I've noticed the same pattern, over and over again:
People self-sabotage their own healthy eating success,
and they don't even realize it.
Are You Afraid of Success?
YES
this is REAL.
And well… it's hard to acknowledge in yourself.
Being AFRAID of SUCCESS is a deeply rooted self-fulfilling prophecy.
It keeps you from real growth and from taking the leaps through fear that get you to the next level:
whether in school, work, relationships, or your health.
It's completely understandable, though.
Because do you know WHAT comes at the COST of Healthy Eating SUCCESS?
Personally, it can involve a LOT of:
- Subtraction of certain foods and habits
- Deliberate focus on what you eat and how you feel
- Identity transformation: becoming someone far DIFFERENT
(no, don't feel bad about those guilt-trippers who want the "old"-molded you; you have the right to CHANGE)
- Strict values alignment: saying no when others pressure you to be like them
- Social circle transformation: not everyone will come with you along the commitment
Socially, it can include PLENTY of:
- Antagonization and harsh judgment
- Misunderstanding from people who've never tried
- Rejection from those uncomfortable with your choices
- Hate (for dumb reasons; remember: hate always comes from below)
And underneath all of it?
One dangerous condition: comfort.
The very thing keeping people repelled from their own success.
Why Would Anyone FEAR Healthy Eating SUCCESS?
Time for reality to rear its UGLY HEAD:
If you actually succeeded at healthy eating: consistently, long-term, here's what would change:
- You'd have to choose differently when eating out with friends, or skip certain outings altogether.
- You'd need to protect your boundaries with family around food choices.
- You'd be criticized and pressured to follow the crowd.
- You'd be swimming against the current in a culture that optimizes for fast food, convenience, and processed snacks.
(these were exactly what happened when I began my journey eating healthy):
- Stopped ordering take out much and started cooking my own food so I know what’s even in it
- Siblings and parents ridiculed me and chastised me for cooking my food separately, even guilt-tripping that it’s a waste of extra gas use or dishes (petty squabbles)
- Resisting the norm of food culture around me:
drinking Coke soda multiple times…or even breakfast… The kinds of snacks loaded with fats and sugars given to kids…and they probably don’t realize it…🤢
- Pressured to eat the exact same way as parents just because THEY feel “fine” with it but not acknowledging that every BODY is DIFFERENT.
There are certain foods make me feel optimal…
others that leave me SLUGGISH and unproductive…
but of course it’s hard for some people to be CONSIDERATE….
(refer one of my favorite stoic quotes:”….
“they can’t tell good from evil”…and sure as h*ll I am imperfect in my own ways too…no shade)
But I won’t allow them to control me.
I will choose what I know that’s right for me.
Here’s what will happen when you’ve optimized for healthy eating for long term,
til you NEVER even have cravings
(yes I reached this stage too already…did NOT take so long…just 90 days or less of real healthy eating will already be sufficient):
When FOOD FOG LIFTS
(away with the artificial energy, the sugar highs, the inflammatory processed foods...)
Then your TRUE STATE OF BEING
becomes COMPLETELY CLEAR.
No more numbing nor blurring.
And people are DEEPLY AFRAID TO SIT WITH THEMSELVES AND KNOW THEIR TRUE STATE.
The Science Is Wild
A 2014 study published in Science found something incredible:
many people prefer mild electric shocks over sitting quietly alone with their thoughts for just 10–15 minutes.
Led by Timothy Wilson at the University of Virginia, the research found that 67% of men and 25% of women in one experiment chose to shock themselves rather than endure 15 minutes of quiet thought.
The key takeaway is that the human mind is wired to seek distraction (even painful distraction) over stillness and self-awareness.
Think about what that means for healthy eating.
Food is one of the most accessible distractors there is.
It numbs. It stimulates. It gives you something to do with your feelings.
So when you choose to eat clean, consistently,
You're choosing to know yourself.
Ultra brave. And definitely NOT everyone is ready for it.
And I’ll leave you with this other favorite quote of mine to ponder on
what to do with this TRUTH about Healthy Eating SUCCESS:
A Simple Step to Try Today:
Ask yourself this pretty direct but important question:
“What needs to CHANGE for me to start eating healthier?”

Be it
- your inner values,
- your budget allocation,
- who you hang out with,
- your honest self-diligence (the do-say ratio, aka fulfilling what you said you were going to do),
- giving away all the "wrong" foods in your cabinet right now etc.
Admit it objectively.
Name it, write it down.
Just ONE thing.
