Most people think of oil as a neutral ingredient. Just something you pour into the pan so your food doesn't stick.

But the oil you cook with isn't passive.

It becomes part of every cell membrane in your body.

It either keeps those cells flexible, protected, and communicating properly, or it can sets off a slow-burning fire inside them.

That fire has a name: chronic inflammation.

And it starts long before you feel any symptoms!

How so?, you wonder? Let's dive into NNbr #3~👇

🍏 Nutrition No-Brainer #3

A – Add Healthy Fats When Cooking
Use olive oil, coconut oil, or even natural butter, without preservatives or chemicals.
Because the type of oil you cook with will either fuel your cells or inflame them.

🧱 Your Cells Are Literally Made of Fat

Here's the imagery that helps you picture what’s going on:

Every single cell in your body is wrapped in a membrane: a thin, flexible layer that controls what gets in, what gets out, and how well the cell communicates with everything around it.

That membrane is made largely of FAT MOLECULES.

So when you cook with oil and eat it, those fats are not just passing through. They are being incorporated directly into your cell membranes, rebuilding and replacing them over time.

This means the oil in your pan today is the raw material for your cellular walls tomorrow.

The quality of that material determines whether your cells function smoothly or start to break down.

🔥 Why Wrong Oils Inflame: The Omega-6 Overload Problem

Common vegetable, seed, and canola oils are extremely high in omega-6 fatty acids.

Omega-6 itself is not the enemy; your body does need some. The problem is the ratio.

In a healthy body, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids should be consumed in roughly a 1:1 to 4:1 ratio.

The modern diet, dominated by seed oils in nearly every packaged food and restaurant kitchen, pushes that ratio closer to 20:1, sometimes even HIGHER.

When omega-6 overwhelms omega-3 in this way, the body's inflammatory pathways get stuck in the "on" position.

Here's the simple mechanism:

1: Omega-6 fats are converted in the body into pro-inflammatory signaling molecules (called eicosanoids).

2: Omega-3 fats produce the anti-inflammatory counterparts that balance them out.

3: When one side of the scale is overloaded and the other is deficient, the result is a body that is chronically, gradually inflamed,

not even from suspects like an injury or infection, but from as simple as what you've been cooking with every day.

That chronic inflammation is not dramatic. You won't feel it most of the time.


But over months and years, it underlies joint pain, skin issues, fatigue, gut problems, and is a known driver of heart disease, metabolic disorders, and SO MUCH MORE GOING BADLY for your health (Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means, pp. 141, 184).

♨️ Why Wrong Oils INFLAME Even More: What Heat Does

The second problem with seed oils is what happens the moment they hit a hot pan.

Polyunsaturated fats, the dominant type found in vegetable, soybean, sunflower, and canola oils, are CHEMICALLY UNSTABLE.

Their molecular structure contains multiple double bonds that are highly reactive, especially under heat, light, and air.

When these oils are heated during cooking, those bonds break down rapidly.

The oil oxidizes, meaning it reacts with oxygen and degrades, producing toxic byproducts called aldehydes and free radicals.

Imagine a fresh piece of wood versus a dry, brittle twig.

🟢 Healthy, stable fats (like those in olive oil or coconut oil) are like the solid wood: they can take heat without falling apart.

🔴 Polyunsaturated seed oils are the brittle twig: apply heat, and they splinter into fragments that damage whatever they touch.

❌Those fragments: the aldehydes and free radicals, are what damage your cell membranes, trigger oxidative stress, and set inflammation in motion at the cellular level.

Did you know?

Restaurants and households REUSE COOKING OILS REPEATEDLY.

Each time the same oil is reheated, the oxidation compounds and the toxic byproduct load MULTIPLY.

This is one of the highest-risk sources of dietary inflammation that so many people overlook or fail to be aware of

(especially with takeout or eating out,

unless the restaurant/source is transparent of their cooking methods or are dedicated to the mission of true, clean healthy eating).

🤸‍♀️Why the Right Oils FUEL Cells

Now flip the picture.

❇️ Olive oil is rich in oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat with only one double bond in its structure.

That single bond makes it far more chemically stable under heat than polyunsaturated oils.

It doesn't shatter into harmful fragments when you cook with it.

More than that, extra virgin olive oil is packed with polyphenols, which are plant-based antioxidants that actively neutralize free radicals rather than producing them.

So instead of generating oxidative stress, olive oil actively buffers against it.

It also promotes the production of anti-inflammatory signaling molecules, directly counteracting the omega-6 pathway described above.

❇️ Coconut oil takes stability even further.

Being predominantly saturated fat, it has no double bonds to break, making it the most heat-stable of the three options.

No double bonds means no oxidation pathway.

No oxidation means no harmful byproducts when it hits a hot pan.

Its medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are also metabolized differently from long-chain fats: they go directly to the liver and are converted quickly into usable energy rather than being stored or circulating as fat in the bloodstream.

❇️ Natural butter (without additives or chemical preservatives) contains a short-chain saturated fat called butyrate, which is one of the preferred fuel sources for the cells lining your gut, supporting gut wall integrity and reducing gut inflammation directly.

It also contains fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) that require dietary fat for absorption.

Real butter feeds your gut lining.

Margarine and processed spreads, by contrast, contain hydrogenated oils (trans fats) or seed oil bases THAT DO THE OPPOSITE.

The shared principle across all three:

structural stability under heat + anti-inflammatory or neutral signaling in the body =

oils that fuel cells rather than damage them (Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means, pp. 167, 195).

🩸 What's Happening to Your Bloodwork

Chronic low-grade inflammation from a lopsided omega-6:omega-3 ratio doesn't stay invisible forever…

it WILL eventually show up in the numbers your doctor tracks.

An OMEGA-6-DOMINANT DIET IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST DRIVERS OF ELEVATED INFLAMMATORY MARKERS,

which correlate with higher long-term risk of heart disease and metabolic dysfunction.

SO

Instead of seed oils, trade for the TRUE HEALTHY OILS: olive oil/coconut oil/REAL butter, which all have been consistently linked to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol and higher HDL ("good") cholesterol.

The oleic acid and polyphenols in olive oil work directly on these markers, not just on how you feel day-to-day.

This isn't only about avoiding an achy joint or a skin flare-up, but about the same bloodwork numbers your doctor flags at your annual physical (Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means, p. 184.)

• 💃 The Long-Term Results of Fueling (NOT INFLAMING) Your Cells

When your cell membranes are built from stable, anti-inflammatory fats instead of oxidized, omega-6-heavy ones, the benefits compound over years:

💚 healthier joints and skin,

💚 lower systemic inflammation,

💚 a heart and cardiovascular system under less chronic strain,

💚 cells that communicate and repair themselves properly instead of fighting oxidative damage.

None of this is dramatic in the short term.

You won't feel a single meal's difference.

But keep in SERIOUS MIND: cell membranes turn over constantly, meaning every meal is either raw material for resilience, or raw material for slow-motion damage.

❇️ The oil in your pan is a daily, compounding decision:

one that shapes your inflammation levels, your bloodwork, and your long-term disease risk far more than most people realize!

❣️DEAD-Simple Step to Try Today:

When choosing a cooking oil to use, ask two questions:

1. How stable is this fat under heat?

✅Saturated fats (coconut oil, butter) → MOST STABLE

✅Monounsaturated fats (olive oil) → STABLE at low to medium heat.

❌Polyunsaturated fats (vegetable, canola, soybean, sunflower) → UNSTABLE, oxidizes quickly under heat.

2. Does it tip the omega-6 to omega-3 balance toward inflammation or away from it?

✅High omega-9 or saturated → neutral to ANTI-inflammatory (olive oil, coconut oil, butter).

❌High omega-6 → PRO-inflammatory (seed oils).

If an oil FAILS both tests, it does NOT belong in your kitchen.
